Matt Harris graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelors degree, and from the Eastman School of Music with a Masters degree in Jazz composition. Matt moved to Los Angeles after touring with jazz greats Maynard Ferguson and Buddy Rich. In addition to his devotion to jazz education, Matt's versatility as a writer, arranger and performer keep him very busy in the L.A. studio scene. His music can be heard on numerous jingles, film scores, CDs and live productions. Matt is currently Director of Jazz Studies at California State University, Northridge.
The Texas-born, Houston-raised Armando Compean was exposed to classical, jazz and latin music at an early age by his violinist/bassist father. Backing such artists as Bobby blue Bland, Albert Collins, Arnett Cobb and Johnny Copeland, to name a few, Armando has a clear understanding of blues and jazz roots and is able and willing to blend the two with natural conviction. He is also an accomplished singer and leads his own blues/R&B band, Texas Brown.
A native of Los Angeles, Lee Spath was exposed to drums, big band music and jazz by his father who was also a drummer. After majoring in music at Cal State Northridge, his interest in jazz and different styles of music took hold, leading to a varied list of credits including Thelma Houston, Della Reese, Bobby Bryant, Randy Crawford and Maria Muldaur. His many recording credits include Robert Cray's Grammy-winning, platinum selling Strong Persuader album. Along with MALT and his freelance work, Lee is currently performing and recording with the legendary BB Chung King and the Buddaheads.
Tom Peterson has lived in Los Angeles since 1970. Originally from Minneapolis, he attended the University of Minnesota majoring in saxophone performance and composition. Tom served in the U. S. Army Field Band (Studio Band) for three years before coming to California. As a freelance studio musician (woodwinds), composer and arranger, Tom can be heard on television, albums, motion pictures and jingles for television and radio. He has worked as an educator, clinician and adjudicator. Tom has played and performed with notable acts and singers and Big bands including the NBC Tonight Show Orchestra with Doc Severinsen - 17 years; Toshiko Akiyoshi - Lew Tabackin Big Band - 7 years; Bill Holman Big Band - 5 years and is currently with the Bob Florence limited Edition.
